Why is learning Spanish so hard? Do you know? Does anyone know? Have your high school or college Spanish teachers ever told you why? The Cartesian Spanish Pronunciation Lesson tells you why and it all starts with the concept of “distinctions.”
The CSPL doesn’t teach you Spanish. It teaches you why Spanish may be so hard to learn and how to use that to your advantage. It teaches you how to learn… how to learn… Spanish.
Your Spanish teacher may say a word or a phrase or even a sentence and ask you to repeat after them. As you repeat those words your mind does something to try to figure out and manage these alien sounds and words. It applies the pronunciation you’re familiar with to these new words and sounds instead of the accurate Spanish sounds. That becomes your version of Spanish.
Eliminate bad habits from the beginning
It’s as if you’re translating the Spanish twice. First for your brain, then for your mouth, as you attempt to speak it.
What if you could just eliminate those extra steps?
You may even be perfectly fluent in Spanish, after years of good, diligent studying. Good work! But you may also still have a strong accent, one you’d prefer to get rid of. Don’t get me wrong.
